
Children’s Service of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG)
The Children’s Service of PCG is a foundational ministry dedicated to the Christian education and holistic development of children within the church. It nurtures children in faith, values, and moral discipline from an early age.
Age Range
The Children’s Service is designed for children aged 3 to 12 years, covering nursery, kindergarten, and basic school levels up to upper primary. This ensures that biblical teachings and activities are age-appropriate and engaging.
History
- Founded: November 21, 1921
- First Congregation: Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, Osu, Accra
- Pioneers: Ms. Hogarth and Ms. I.P. Ross (Scottish Mission secretaries to Dr. A.W. Wilkie)
- Supporters: Rev. L.L. Richter and teachers from Osu Salem School
- The program expanded from the Ga Presbytery to all PCG congregations nationwide.
Mission
To partner with families, communities, and church structures to lead children to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, and to support their:

This mission is modeled after Luke 2:52—“And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.”
Key Activities
Organized under the National Children’s Service Teachers’ Fellowship (NCSTF):
- Children’s Week Celebrations
- Held annually
- Includes Bible recitations, choreography, drama, poetry, and scripture memorization
- Children’s Camps
- Weekend or holiday gatherings
- Include Bible studies, life skills, vocational training, and fun activities
- Children’s Rallies
- Evangelistic and community-focused events at the district or presbytery level
- Basic Training Courses for Teachers
- Provides teaching methods, child psychology, and faith development strategies
- Children’s Choir and Drama Ministry
- Helps develop musical talents and public speaking skills for church service
Organizational Structure
- Local Level: Every PCG congregation has a Children’s Service team and classes divided by age
- District & Presbytery Levels: Organize joint events, training, and competitions
- National Level: Coordinated by the National Committee on Children’s Ministry, formed in 2001
